The Wonders of Bread

Bread is one of the largest forms of carbohydrates and has been crafted by the finest chefs over the years to create truly unique recipes. First merely chewed in Egypt, wheat has been around since before recorded time. When it was later discovered that it could be crushed, dough was formed and Egyptians cooked this dough to form hard flat bread. If a piece of dough was left out, yeast was made, and this piece was added to a new batch of dough to make what is now known as sour dough bread. The yeast in bread makes the dough rise, forming air pockets and increasing in size. When baked, it makes the light, airy texture within a crunchy crust that has been loved for mankind for generations and has made it a nutritious food staple. Symbolizing warmth, family, and tradition, bread is loved by all ages and all cultures.

How Bread is Made

Bread, one of the oldest prepared food, is made by first making the perfect dough. Depending on the type of bread being made, you will need flour, yeast, water, sugar, salt, and butter or oil. These ingredients are combined, kneaded, and left alone to rise. After it is risen, nearly doubling in size, the bread is gently kneaded once more and left to rise one more time. After it has risen again, the dough is formed into a loaf or rolls and baked at a predetermined temperature until the outside is golden brown. After baking, the bread should be fluffy and soft inside and slightly crunchy on the outside. The bread is usually cut into slices, which gives each bread slice that comforting crust on the outside.
